New Volunteer Opportunity

Editing Video and Audio Files of Ven. Bhikkhu Bodhi’s Lectures

Experienced help in editing the audio files and video files of Ven. Bhikkhu Bodhi’s lectures would be much appreciated. The main project at this time is to edit the audio and video files of the lectures (approximately 1-1/2 hours each) from Bhikkhu Bodhi’s ongoing course that uses as a primary textbook his anthology, In the Buddha’s Words. These lectures are given at Chuang Yen Monastery. You need not live locally or even in the USA to help.

Editing Video Files

This would require someone with experience in digital video editing to be formatted to post online.

Editing Audio Files

Volunteer experienced with audio editing in Adobe Audition or similar semi-professional packages. For example, in Adobe Audition, the work would require:

  1. Use “Hard Limiting” to increase the volume
  2. Use “Noise Reduction” to remove or minimize any background noise, hum, etc.
  3. Use a combination of 1 and 2 on the parts where questions are be asked to try to boost these sections so that the questions are audible
  4. Use “Cut” to remove coughs, bangs, etc. where possible (usually only during silences)
  5. Use “Click/Pop Eliminator” to remove any clicks, bangs, etc. during speech (only feasible for sharp noises)
  6. Use “Cut” to limit silences to a maximum of 20-30 seconds (usually where Bhante is writing on the board)
  7. Use “Cut” to improve the flow of the talk, e.g., top and tail the talk, remove words if Bhante repeats them (e.g., first word is misspoken)
  8. Save the file as 64kbps, 44100, mono for CD distribution
  9. Save the file as 32kbps, 22050, mono for web download
  10. Use MP3 Tag editing software to add all the relevant tags

We can also use help preparing the audio files for CD distribution, which will require html editing skills.

  1. Create a version of the Web table of contents webpage to work on a CD/DVD
  2. Copy all the images, script files, and links
  3. Copy all the other documents (PDFs, etc.) and create the associated links
  4. Create an autorun.inf script file
